Industries Minister stresses on new textile policy

Industries Minister Debi Prasad Mishra underscored the need for a new textile policy to counter recently emerging countries like Myanmar, Bangladesh and Vietnam in the sector.

Addressing the inaugural session of International Conference on Textiles and Apparel- Texcon’16 organised by CII at New Delhi on Thursday, the Minister said there is need for process and technology innovation, creation of a pool of skilled manpower and necessary policy support from the Centre for furthering development of textile sector in the country.

Mishra spoke about various incentives and measures announced by Odisha Government to promote textiles and apparel sector in the State. He also released CII-Wazir Advisors Theme Paper on “Global Competitiveness and Trade Growth Paradigms for Indian Textile and Apparel sector”.

Secretary, Ministry of Textiles Rashmi Verma was the guest of honour while Co-Chairman, CII National Committee on Textiles Sachit Jain gave welcome address while co-founder Wazir Advisors Pvt Ltd Prasant Agarwal and Chairman, CII Texcon-2016 RD Udeshi made the theme presentation and gave keynote address respectively.

Principal Secretary in Industries Department Sanjiv Chopra presented the policy framework, ‘ease of doing business’ initiatives and details of Ramdaspur Textile Park and Bhadrak Apparel Park being developed by the State Government.

The Minister along with the Principal Secretary and other officials met potential investors in textile and apparel industry.
