Odisha Chief Secretary directed officers to expedite Bhubaneswar Smart City project

Chief Secretary AP Padhi on Monday directed concerned officers to expedite the Bhubaneswar Smart City process and set timelines for each project. Padhi issued the direction while reviewing the progress of the projects at the State Ssecretariat here. Smart City Mission CEO R Vineel Krishna placed the updates and outlined the issues for discussion.

He advised to develop a ‘GPS-based integrated mobile apps’ for denizens and appropriate waste management systems. The projects like Automated Traffic Signalisation (ATS), Railway Multimodal Hub Phase-I, ‘Bhubaneswar One’ (Common Integrated GIS Platform),  Shantinagar Awas Yojana and Satyanagar Institutional core area development were put to fast track. It was decided that the number of ATS would be enhanced to 64 from the present level of 24 at a cost estimated cost of Rs 10 crore within coming nine months.

The Common Integrated GIS Platform project would have online information about basic data of the city, containing properties, land use, master plan, monuments, parking, educational institutions, health institutions, routes, bus services and online routes of tax payment. The ESRI has been entrusted to undertake the Phase-I of this project at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore. The other fast-tracked project was Railway Multi Modal Hub Phase-I near the railway station. The project includes railway terminal building, bus terminal and underground parking area development. Estimated cost of the project is around Rs 340 crore.

CEO Krishna informed this to mediaperosns after the meeting. He said the tender document would be made readywithin two weeks. The Satyanagr Institutional Core Redevelopment project would come up in an area of 40 acres. The area would be developed into an institutional space for promotion of commerce, business and education hub. The joint survey of the BMC and the GA Department has been completed. Similarly, the Shantinagar Awas Yojana for redevelopment of slum area is being survey jointly by the BMC and the GA Department. Other projects reviewed included the Bhubaneswar Urban Knowledge Center, ‘I am Bhubaneswar’ and the Street Vendor Improvement Programme. Among others, Housing and Urban Development Secretary G Mathivathanan, GA Special Secretary Ashok Mina,  BMC Commissioner Kishan Kumar, DCP Amrita Das and IT Special Secretary Rudra Narayan Pallai were present.
