Odisha: Large industries created 7L jobs in 25 yrs

The micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) employed around six lakh people compared to around one lakh by the large industries in the past 25 years in the state.

Industries minister Debi Prasad Mishra told the assembly that 1.24 lakh MSME units employed 5.84 lakh employees from 1990-91 to 2014-15. Similarly, 213 large industries in the same period employed 1.09 lakh people.

Industries generated highest jobs in Sundargarh district. The MSMEs employed 68,000 people in Sundargarh district followed by 48,000 in Khurda. Large industries provided jobs to highest 47,000 people in Sundargarh followed by 7,900 in Jajpur.

To a separate reply, the minister said the government has given its approval to 55 industrial houses to establish facilities in the state with a proposed investment of Rs 50,605 crore.

The Centre has approved nine special economic zones (SEZs) in the state. While five of them are notified, three have got formal approval and one has got in-principle approval.

Debi said the government has plan to establish national investment manufacturing zone (NIMZ) on 40,812 acre by spending Rs 10,627 crore at Kalinganagar in Jajpur district. The project is expected to invite Rs 1 lakh crore investment and generate 1.5 lakh direct employment. Detailed project report of the NIMZ is being prepared, he said.

The government will establish an electronics manufacturing cluster hardware park at Info Vally in Bhubaneswar IT investment region with an investment of Rs 209 crore. The Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation has already prepared master plan for first phase of the project on 534 acres.
