To promote state to the global investors, the government is planning to organize 'Make in India' conference in association with the department of industrial policy and promotion (DIPP) under the Union commerce ministry.

Though detail programmes for the programme are yet to be chalked out, sources in the industries department said the conference is likely to be a two-day event starting December 1.

To discuss the event, chief secretary A P Padhi would chair a high-level meeting on August 12. Besides officials of different departments, industry leaders and lobby are invited to give a final shape to the two-day conference, said an officer in the industries department.

Since investments are mostly confined to steel, power, aluminium and other mineral-based sectors, the conference would showcase potential of untapped sectors like micro, small and medium enterprises, food processing, electronics and information technology, tourism, handloom, textiles and handicrafts, higher education, chemicals, plastic, petrochemicals, downstream and ancillary industries, agro and sea food processing, official sources said.

The World Bank along with the DIPP ranked Odisha 7th among all states in terms of ease of doing business in September last year.

Now Odisha eyes the top three positions in terms of ease of doing business by adopting a set of reforms in tax, energy, labour and employees' benefit sectors.

Besides the Industrial Policy Resolution, 2015, the state government recently unveiled the Odisha Industrial Development Plan to create massive employment.

The state government also launched e-Biz, an online portal, to overcome hurdles in different departments. It received accolades from industrialists and policy makers during the Mumbai Make in India week held in February.
